A day of art, and food
so today i went around visiting some of the Singapore Biennale exhibits... and i was very happy i had decided to do so.
it's basically visual arts and mutlimedia works... and surprisingly wasn't all too arty-farty til the point that it became like, "err... what the hell is this ah?" pieces of art that spoke to people, were easy to understand, yet so full of meaning at the same time...
and the best thing was... it was like, when you view art relating to say, religion, in a church, the impact is greater. at the same time, it was a good way to bring art to the masses.
in the national library for instance, there was this exhibit where flames were projected onto some book on shelves, among all the other library books. and you'll have people walking to that shelf, looking for books, and then someone will go, "hey, how come here got fire graphics ah?"
so ya... cool... excellent effort... 5 stars rating.
after that, we went for a brazilian churrascaria at chijmes.... my own complaint is that they use too much salt for my liking but apart from that, it was an interesting experience... and for the all the meat that we consumed (not forgetting the side dishes!), the price was fair.
I'm just gonna swear off meat for the next couple of days, that's all.... i felt like puking when i walked past a chicken rice stall on my way home just now lor...
we went for a bit of a walk after that meal... being completely bloated up and everything... and when we got to the traffic junction just outside suntec, where the war memorial is, we saw these two bags, left at the side of the pavement. and immediately, all those ads about reporting suspicious packages sprang to mind - all the money put into those ads were worth it.
it was just plain weird. there were no people around, save for those waiting at the traffic lights. there were no benches etc around, so it seemed highly impossible that someone could have sat there, and left his belongings... i mean, ya, totally weird.
we weren't quite so sure what to do. so we finally decided that we would go to suntec to use the loo, then when we got back, if the two knapsacks were still there, then we'll inform the police or something.
and yes, when we had finished err... with our private businesses and had stepped out, the bags were still there. so we informed this policewoman inside suntec. she radioed her superiors, i think that's who they were... and we heard, crackling over the radio, "we will send people to check it, over."
so that was our good deed done for the day.
but the strange thing is... i was half expecting policemen to like, run out of suntec to examine the bags (they had closed the suntec convention area to conduct bomb sweeps), but tt didn't happen. well ok, the entire swat team didn't have to appear but point is, i expected some swift response. even if a single policeman were to walk out to check it out, at least they were following up on a reported 'sighting'.
we had been walking really slowly down the length of the green patch of grass surronding the war memorial.. well ok, we were crawling along - we were still feeling full.. so it would have been like, a full 10-15 minutes since we informed the policewoman... but no one came out to look at the bags!
what if there was a bloody bomb inside???
*roll eyes*
how 'efficient'.
oh, by the way... if anyone needs sunflowers... there's an entire stretch planted along suntec...
like, freaking expensive lah can!
the angmohs coming here for meetings better spend lots of money here lah!
speaking of which... i wonder if there'll be a sudden increase in visitors to orchard towers during this period... hehe
