Picture time

Just wanted to share these pictures...

This, is my first attempt at baking/decorating a Christmas log cake... not too bad, right? Tastes quite nice too... the filling inside, has a distinct rum flavour - I added rum essence. So overall, the whole cake, cream and all, has a chocolate-rum taste.

I don't think I'll be eating much cake for a while though... now that I know exactly how much butter goes into the cream... and the amount of sugar for the filling... gosh...

I'll be baking more for the Christmas Eve family dinner... and maybe I'll do one for my friends too... got some sort of gathering on the 30th Dec.

Next...

And this guy, I saw while walking down Orchard Road yesterday... in case you cannot read the words, it says: 'The Artist needs Money'.

Opps... realised it's not vertical.... but I'm feeling a little too lazy to re-arrange the pic so you'll just have to do a little neck exercise.
I just thought it was kinda cool... like, woah, in Singapore, an artist doing something like that!!!! So much courage (or stupidity, depending on how you make sense of it)...

We need to liven up our streets!

Ok, I'm off for a ciggie...

The wedding march

Lalala...

My god-sis got engagement ring!

I am happy for her... yes, I think the bf is a little too controlling, but on the other hand, it's no mean feat, to be able to get her to listen to someone and be a guai girl girl... so that scores him bonus points! Lol... most importantly, as long as he loves her, takes good care of her, and always has her interest at heart, all else doesn't matter.

Congrats, dearie... I am happy you found your happiness...

Ok... erm... that was a bit of mushiness on my part...

This week's issue of 8 Days has this segment about comparisons of certain stuff which happened in 1990, and that of 2005.
For example, under 'Toy Boys', it says:
1990: New Kids on the Block - girls go crazy over five teenagers prancing around without their shirts on looking really gay.
2005: II Divo - girls go crazy over four grown men standing around in suits looking really gay.

I like what they said about 'American Life':
1990: George HW goes to war with Iraq over oil
2005: George W Bush goes to war with Iraq over oil

And there's also 'American Idiot':
1990: America's Funniest Home Videos is launched, showcasing the best of American family blunders.
2005: Hurricane Karrina is unleashed, showcasing the worst of American political blunders at home.

Ya ok, so that's Political Science entertainment for you.

I've Christmas shopping to do, not much though... as the years go by, you don't need to buy so many presents coz firstly, the number of good-friends-who-deserve-gifts go down, and second, I don't meet up with those close friends much to celebrate christmas now. Used to have an annual Christmas gathering of close friends at my place... there'll be roast chicken and stuff like that... and it was all fun... but I suppose it's like, after a while, we all get busy, especially with many of us now working and having difficulty matching schedules, and end up chatting more over MSN... not sure if that is good or not. I used to have to write more than 50 cards to distribute to friends, but now it's not necessary coz snail mail is no longer in fashion, and also there's only a small group I'll bothering writing cards for. I must admit though, I miss receiving good old Christmas cards, compared to the sms you get after midnight that goes 'Merry Christmas', together with some sms tree design.

Oh, by the way, if anyone bothers, there's some stuff I've got on my Christmas wish-list:
1) HMV voucher --- a $100 one should be enough I guess.
2) Care Bears! --- I saw this lot in Carrefour today; when you hold the Care Bear's paws, it'll sing for you! And the voice is just sooooo adorable! I want!
3) Anklet ---- I've been wanting to get a nice silver chain anklet...
4) Hair Salon voucher --- it'll be nice to be able to walk into a salon and get highlights... the last time I stepped into a salon was like... gee, more than 5 years ago, I think.
5) Rent CD
6) Eyeliner and Eyebrow pencil --- coz I'm running out and I'm eyeing the ones from Body Shop, and Bobbi Brown

I actually have more wishes... but err... we'll just leave it at that, ok?

Hello there!

Anybody missed me?

Humor me here and nod your head, ok?

Another week has passed, so quickly... and it's actually going to be Christmas this time next week! Then before we all know it, another year would have past, and everyone will be ushering in 2006.

Funny ring to it, 2006...

I've been pretty busy at work... stupid technical search... and by the time I get home, I dun really want to be facing another laptop, having just spent the entire day sitting in front of one. Sometimes something comes to mind and I think about blogging it down, but tiredness usually wins in the end.

Plus err... there's Harry to be with late into the nights.

So ok, I'm kinda slow in catching up with the rest of the crazy world, and yes I used to taunt fans, but I've now come to my senses: Harry Potter is a damn good series.

I've been averaging about a book per 1.5 days... and I actually feel kinda lost now, having finished Half-Blood Prince not too long ago. I feel like I'm dangling up at the edge... and yes, I wanna get my hands around Rowling's neck and strangle here... how could she have done that??? Can you believe it, I actually had tears in my eyes when I read that final bit... wimp!

I've totally sold out!

And now I'm going to be one of those goons... waiting with breathless anticipation for the mid of next year where hopefully, the next book will be out. Gee, I'll probably be one of those elbowing people out of the way at the bookshop so that I'll have my book.

I should have waited til every single book had come out, before I started reading Harry Potter... less painful that way.

Err....

Was surfing through Friendster... one of the best ways to know what your old old old friends are doing is to look at the pictures in their profiles..

I have counted 3 friends who are now married... all of them, my age.

First was my best friend in sec 1-2.
Second was an ok-friend in sec school... she converted to Islam to marry
Third was my crappy buddy in sec 3-4, and he is now, by the looks of it, a chef-in-training, and the girl whom he's always hugging in pictures, seem to remind me of a junior of ours in sec school.

Gosh.... I am happy for them.. yet, I also find it creepy.

Rent..... how do you measure a year in the life?

I went to watch Rent the musical this afternoon.

It was DAMN good!

Well ok, so the audio system was not fantastic, and sometimes the music was much louder than the voice of the stars..

But it was DAMN wonderful!!!

Oh ok, so I mentioned it earlier.

The issues raised... ya ok, so now topics like homosexuality are very common, but I think what really stood out was the message that no matter who or what you are, in whatever social class, we are all human. We all go through the same problems, tackling our insecurities, fears, handle the delicate thing called love, death... only thing is, some people are stronger, able to face up to those scary issues in life, take them on, and fight them well. One thing which stage performances do very well, in my personal opinion, is to bring out, show it so clearly to the audience, the raw energy that fuels human life. And when you add on music, good lyrics... it can really touch you... well, at least it touched me.

I was bloody getting all teary-eyed lah! Certain bits here and there, I would feel tears swelling up in my eyes, and I'll be silently cursing and swearing, chiding myself for being so silly... especially bits when Angel died, when Mimi came to say goodbye, the last scene with the dying Mimi and Roger sang 'I should tell you I have always loved you'... yes I know, I'm a bloody sucker for such stuff... as much of a cynical old bitch I may be

Of course there were some very nice scenes... like the bit when Mimi asks Roger to light her candle. And gosh... Angel looked sooo good, and really so female... the love scenes between her and Collin, she looked so blissfully happy and in love; damn good actor. And who can forget the 'Over the Moon' performance? My audience actually moo-ed along with her when she asked them to.

And Karen Mok... she did perform well next to those Broadway people... she held her own very well.. proud of her, fellow Asian... and I want her hairstyle!!!!

I'm serious here.. I really do like that sort of hairstyle... I know my hair is a little too long for that hairstyle... but hmm... do you think I'll look good with such a hairstyle?

Anyways... I've been humming the songs all day...

525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear.
525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. I
n inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?

How about love? How about love? How about love?
Measure in love. Seasons of love.
525,600 minutes! 525,000 journeys to plan.
525,600 minutes - how can you measure the life of a woman or man?

In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned, or the way that she died.
It’s time now to sing out, tho the story never ends
let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends.
Remember the love! Remember the love! Remember the love!
Measure in love. Seasons of love! Seasons of love.

My Favourite... the lyrics are really meaningful... if you bother to take the time to read them and understand

Oh well..

Excuse me while I go fantasize about being a Broadway star!

This coming Friday, I'm going to watch Chestnuts!

Oh btw... I only paid $52 for a $150 Rent tic... just wanted to let a certain person know and get all jealous. *smirk*
